Hello, California Spring.

Spring is officially in the air!! I could not be more excited for this time of the year. Flowers blossoming, pretty green on the trees, and Easter is coming.

March 20th is Vernal Equinox – which officially marks the beginning of the Spring season in the Northern Hemisphere. The word equinox is Latin for “equal night”. On the spring equinox, the Earth hits the turning point in its orbit where neither the North or the South poles are tilted towards the sun. As a result, the Sun spends a roughly equal amount of time above and below the horizon at every location on the Earth, so night and day are about the same length. – Mirror.

Open windows, warm breeze blowing through your hair, and longer days – Spring in California has been so good. Warm days and cool nights call for days filled with exploring islands. Last week, my good friend took me to explore Balboa Island in Newport which has one of the cutest towns I have seen!

It also is the ONE place in California that has Cheerwine! For those that know me very well back in NC, it is a very well known fact that I LOVE cheerwine. Anytime I went anywhere to eat, I always checked to see if they had cheerwine as it is my preferred drink. Moving out to California, it was a running joke from all of my friends that they would send me packs of cheerwine since there isn’t any on the west coast. BEHOLD THERE IS CHEERWINE IN CALIFORNIA IN BALBOA ISLAND IN A GLASS BOTTLE!! Not only did I savor every second of every sip, but was also able to introduce a Californian native to it (she wasn’t a big fan haha). This moment definitely brought me back to North Carolina in my mind.

Balboa island also has a ferry! After exploring around Balboa and their cute little shops (and finding a steal on a dress for $7), we drove to a ferry where we ported the car onto and got to take it across the ocean (short trip) to the other side of the island – just in time to try and find a perfect location to watch the sunset at the beach.
